Pray and Vote: Don't Sit Out This Election
Back to Voting Basics:
Getting out to vote when people feel like throwing in the towel
Social media and yard signs intensify. Yet Election 2024 features a huge number of people who feel disillusioned by the worst of politics. The Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University recently determined that approximately 40 million Christians – including 32 million who attend church regularly – are not planning to vote this year. Sadly, that follows a similar trend from 2020, when about 40 million Christians didn’t vote and 15 million weren’t even registered to vote. Many threaten not to vote at all. Reasons include: a lack of interest in politics (68%), a dislike in both major party candidates (57%), a belief that their vote will not make a difference (52%), and (48%) believe that the election results will be manipulated.
However, did you know that not voting often results from a misunderstanding of the essence of a vote? First, too often people treat a vote like it's a prayer. It is not. A vote acts as an irreplaceable piece in a puzzle picturing the best policies offered. It's not a personal endorsement of a person. Rather, a vote is a selection of the policies espoused by a leader which aligns most with the voter. Voting is a selection of policies. Again, it's not a prayer: Only God is God. Speaking of Whom, we believe God desires us to seek Him about each responsibility as a citizen. Scripture teaches that we have a responsibility to overcome evil with good whenever possible. And Jesus said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (Matthew 22:21).
Other reasons why voting remains important include the following:
· We as Christians are called to pray for our leaders and to be actively overcoming evil with good. Voting can enforce good policies to stop evil.
· Voting allows us to speak up for the vulnerable and stand up for what is right so that good can prevail.
· Voting honors those who sacrificed their lives for us. Every hero who fought and died defended our right to vote.
· Persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ around the world cannot vote. We dare not waste our voice while we still have it. Voting expresses your voice and choice of policies.
In summary, even if feeling disillusioned, everyone absolutely must vote and vote for candidates who mostly closely support Biblical principles. Pastor Greg Laurie said it well, “I think when we make our decision as to who our next president is going to be we need to vote on policy more than personality.” Pastor Greg Laurie continued to say, “And remember God can use flawed people. We have a Biblical precedent for that. God worked through King Nebuchadnezzar, King Cyrus, King Artaxerxes I funded the rebuilding program of the city of Jerusalem. God can work through flawed people. King David comes to mind as well. We’re not electing the Messiah. We already have the Messiah. We’re electing a president. But it’s really important that we vote.”
We must vote based on policy. All people -and candidates- are not perfect and we will never have perfection this side of heaven. There are critical issues on the ballot this year. In addition to the President of the United States we are also voting on U.S. Senators, Congressmen, state legislators, judges, and various local offices. The reality is Donald Trump or Kamala Harris will be our next president. And there are deeply important issues on the ballot this year such as whether or not abortion (and infanticide) will expand, whether or not the United States will continue to stand with Israel, whether or not taxes and inflation will continue to rise, etc.
Allow us a chance to clarify what we face: In spite of her dodging the question, it is well-documented that Kamala Harris proudly plans to expand abortion (including late-term) and she has twice voted for infanticide (which means killing an infant/child after birth). Our hearts hurt. Innocent lives of babies both born and unborn must be protected and we must vote accordingly to fight for life the best we can. In the presidential election, Trump's policies prevent infanticide and late-term abortion and are more pro-life than those of Harris.
We know that Harris is publicly against Israel and has sided with policies that benefit Hamas, an actual terrorist organization which masquerades itself in other areas. In this election, Trump's policies support Israel.
We also know Harris has helped increase taxes and has promoted policies causing historic inflation and financial disarray thereby oppressing the weak. The American people are struggling to make ends meet and to buy basic groceries. This is undeniable. In this election, Trump's policies are best for the economy and the oppressed. (Please see below to read more in-depth policies as detailed by Tony Perkins in his article How Should Christians Approach the 2024 Election?)
We also believe it is important to note something: Harris literally told Christians not to be at her rally. Voters, pay attention! (See video here: https://youtu.be/GNi6T8S35WQ.)
This year, Election Day is November 5. We urge you to vote according to Biblical policies in the presidential election and beyond. We strongly encourage you to pray for our country and for our leaders. Rev. Billy Graham once said, "We should do everything we can to encourage and support good government—including voting. Understand the issues…know where the candidates stand on them…ask God to guide you—and then vote."
Together we can make a difference in our country. We must do our duty. We must pray and vote for the best choices for Biblical policies. No matter what happens, we know that God is sovereign and we can trust Him through it all.
We must share the truth with love –not a shove. We must pray. And we must vote.

Greg Laurie: Reasons Christians Should Vote

"It is absolutely imperative that we as Christians vote in this election! Some say, “Vote your conscience.” That sounds nice but what if your conscience misleads you? I would say, vote Biblically. There are many issues at stake that we as Christians want to have influence on- The sanctity of life, the very definition of the family, our relationship with the nation Israel and so much more. Here, in an interview with Erick Stackeck, I give reasons for Christians to vote."

JD Vance & Kamala Harris React to "Jesus Is King"

As mentioned in our editorial, here's a side-by-side comparison of JD Vance and Kamala Harris each reacting right after someone in the crowd shouted out "Jesus is King." JD Vance agreed and said, "That's right, Jesus is King." Kamala Harris disapproved, disinvited the Christians, and said, "You're at the wrong rally."
Election 2024 Q&As
Think of it this way: Election Day and Veterans Day pair well both in proximity on the calendar and in underlying meaning. Veterans have fought for our freedoms -including our ability to vote. When we vote, we put a stop to unbridled tyranny.
Q: Why vote when your first pick no longer appears on the ballot?• Vote...because veterans died for your freedom to vote.• Vote...because you're voting for policies -not the candidates themselves.• Vote...because, if you refrain, our country will ultimately no longer be free.• Vote...because you vote for policies...not candidates.
Q: How do you vote when you do not like any of the candidates? Again, voting for people does not equal endorsing their lives. Ideally, we vote for people whom we view as Godly, good examples of leadership. But, in an imperfect world in which a theocracy does not exist, we must vote for imperfect people with the policies that match most with our values. Voting for people means voting for the policies they have presented and with which you agree most.
Q: I think I won't vote this time. What do you think of that?Well, with all due respect, we would urge you to prayerfully reconsider. Why? Our brave servicemen and women spilled their blood in order to allow us the privilege to vote. We reinforce our freedoms via the right to vote. Citizens finally have the opportunity to defend our defenders when selecting a new commander in chief.

“Without God, there is no virtue, because there’s no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we’re mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.” — President Ronald Reagan (August 23, 1984)

Ask Billy Graham: Why Bother Voting?
Q. I'm sick of politicians and political campaigns, and I've decided I'm not going to vote this year. It wouldn't do any good anyway, because just one vote won't make any difference. Why bother?
A. Let me ask you a question: What would happen to our nation if everyone decided not to vote? You know the answer—before long we’d lose our freedoms and be ruled by a power-hungry dictatorship. No system of government is perfect, including ours—but all it will take to make it collapse is an indifferent citizenry.
But I also urge you to vote for another reason: I believe it is a God-given responsibility. When Jesus walked this earth, the whole civilized world was under the authority of one individual: the Roman emperor (or Caesar). He wasn’t elected by popular vote, nor did ordinary people have an opportunity to express their views through the ballot box. And the Roman government wasn’t perfect; in fact, it promoted paganism and could be brutal.
And yet Jesus taught that people still had a responsibility to encourage and support their government in every way they possibly could. He said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s” (Matthew 22:21). The same principle is true for us today: We should do everything we can to encourage and support good government—including voting. Understand the issues…know where the candidates stand on them…ask God to guide you—and then vote.
Beyond that, however, pray for our nation and its leaders—not just the President, but all who’ve been entrusted with public office. It’s the most important thing you can do. The Bible commands us to pray for “all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:2).

How Should Christians Approach the 2024 Election?
By Tony Perkins
Ever since Barack Obama’s vow to fundamentally transform America—a promise he kept—each Election Day has become less about politics and personalities and more of a ferocious battle over whose worldview will define a nation. Values that used to unite us have vanished, replaced by the hard contours of two parties without much common ground. For Christians, this year has been marked by the shock of an assassination attempt and the shake-up at the top of the Democratic ticket. And the disappointments of a watered-down GOP platform still stings. So how should Christians approach an election when the imperfections of both parties seem more evident than ever before?
WITH REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS“None is righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).
Our political system, like the rest of our fallen world, is messy, broken and flawed. As frustrating as it is to see our values trampled or ignored, we need to accept that the church isn’t going to find a perfect ruler until the millennial reign of Christ. Men and women in public office are human, and they’ll continue to let us down, no matter how sincere their faith may seem. As someone who has watched recent Republican Party activity closely, I understand the disillusionment that comes with the betrayal of longtime principles. I watched leaders whom I considered stalwarts of the conservative movement—like Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who chaired the platform committee—wipe out decades of pro-life and pro-family progress. It convinced me of this: Christians should go into this election with eyes wide open. We must practice discernment, understanding that we will never have perfect alignment with any political party. Does that mean we shrug our shoulders and walk away? Absolutely not. It means we recommit ourselves to being faithful witnesses to the truth of His Word at the moment in time that God has entrusted to us, whether it’s in vogue or not.
WITH DISCERNMENT“But test everything; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
If Christians are going to change the country’s trajectory, we have to begin with a basic understanding of God’s truth. In the first 12 chapters of Genesis, Scripture spells out the fundamental values we should be looking for: God the Creator (1:1); life (1:26); male and female (1:26); marriage (2:22); and Israel (12:3). Using these five categories as a guide, how do Kamala Harris and Donald Trump stack up?
While Donald Trump seems to have taken a disconcerting step back from some of his socially conservative views in recent months, Americans have the benefit of the 45th president’s four-year track record, which demonstrated his support for the sanctity of life, religious freedom, parental rights, biological sex, national security, legal immigration, military readiness, free speech, constitutionalist judges and justices, and Israel.
What is much less known is the record of Kamala Harris, who, like Trump, professes to be Christian but invokes her faith as a justification for policies like LGBTQ activism, same-sex marriage and even abortion.
When she ran unsuccessfully for the 2020 presidential nomination, Harris insisted that the work she did as California attorney general should serve as “a model of what our nation needs to do.” That “model” was a six-year master class in weaponizing the office of AG, in which she:
• Attacked pro-lifer David Daleiden for exposing Planned Parenthood’s sale of baby body parts;• Demanded that California pregnancy centers promote abortion;• Targeted businesses with moral objections to abortifacients;• Refused to defend laws upholding Biblical marriage between one man and one woman;• And fought to overturn abortion safety standards for women. Harris’s record in the U.S. Senate led GovTrack to call her 2019’s “most liberal senator,” an unsurprising distinction considering she:• Voted twice in favor of legal infanticide;• Vowed to force taxpayers to fund abortion; • Applied a religious test to judicial and Supreme Court nominees;• Sponsored the Equality Act to end religious freedom in America;• Promoted legal prostitution;• Supported the elimination of the Senate filibuster to pack the Supreme Court and abolish election integrity laws;• Opposed homeschooling and popular school choice legislation;• Earned 100% on Planned Parenthood’s scorecard;• Introduced the Do No Harm Act to gut religious liberty;• Cosponsored a bill that would block religious freedom for adoption providers;• Campaigned on allowing trans-identifying men and women in the U.S. military;• And lobbied for girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sports, and even women’s prisons to be opened to biological men.
White House insiders say she’s the force behind Joe Biden’s leftward lurch, even becoming the first sitting vice president to visit an abortion facility. Together with the president, she:
• Rewrote Title IX to force schools to use preferred pronouns, hide gender identities from parents, and elevate transgenderism above women’s rights;• Sued pro-life states to overturn protections for the unborn;• Allowed neighborhood drugstores to dispense the abortion pill;• Granted taxpayer-funded travel to active military seeking abortions;• Forced taxpayers to cover abortions for veterans; reinstated overseas abortion funding;• Advocated for gender-mutilating surgeries and hormones for minors, while demanding taxpayers cover transgender procedures for veterans and military personnel;• Prosecuted whistleblower Eithan Haim for exposing his Texas hospital’s unlawful transgender procedures on children;• Lobbied to expose students to pornographic books;• And funded Planned Parenthood through Title X dollars.
While it’s true that we can’t save the country with a single election, the reality is: we could very well lose it.
WITH OBEDIENCE“Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26, NKJV).
Why should Christians care about politics? Because government is appointed by God. In Romans 13:1-7, Paul describes the governing authorities as “ministers of God,” responsible for administering civil justice. Government is God’s idea, and Christians should think about it and engage with it in a way that’s consistent with its God-ordained purposes.
As believers called to be agents of transformation in the broader society, we have a clear responsibility to vote—not just when we’re enthusiastic about the options or when the choices seem most obvious. If political parties and candidates don’t align perfectly with our values, the answer is not for Christians to retreat. If we fail to be the salt and light we’ve been called to be, we could clearly see America sink deeper into darkness.
WITH NEIGHBORLY LOVE AND GLOBAL COMPASSION“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves …” (Proverbs 31:8, NIV).
God commanded us to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31), and one way we can do that is by engaging in the political process to meet people’s needs. While the race for president gets the most attention, there are much broader implications for voting this November than who will occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In our hands rest the hopes of soldiers on foreign battlefields, the persecuted church in faraway lands and the peace of God’s chosen nation Israel (Numbers 24:9).
And many would argue that there are much more important decisions than the presidency on the state and local ballot. Control of the House and Senate hangs in the balance. Governors, state attorneys general, local school boards, even comptrollers are amassing major victories in protecting children from radical gender ideology, pushing back on corporate America’s woke agenda, fighting the Biden administration’s lawless overreach, and passing sweeping pro-life and pro-parent laws. While we might not have the ideal situation at the top of the ballot, Americans have several other issues to be mindful of as we head to the polls.
WITH ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).
Regardless of what’s happening in America, we should be grateful that we live in a country where we still have the ability to vote. Even though the fabric of our nation is being stretched and tested as never before, each of us has the power to shape our future and our family’s future—a luxury millions of people around the world will never know.
As believers, we understand that this earth is not our ultimate home. However, we must engage with the culture, including politics, while standing firm on the transcendent truth of God’s Word. Paul tells the Ephesians to keep standing (6:13).
Will we turn this country around? We pray so, and we’ll work hard toward that end. When former president John Quincy Adams was asked a cynical question about the failure to end slavery after decades of trying, he said simply, “Duty is ours; results are God’s.” Let us do our duty!

Question: How do Stacie and Carrie know they'll go to Heaven?Answer: It's not because of what they've done or who they are. It's because Jesus lives in them. Anything good in them is because of Jesus in them. They know God and His love in a personal way. They've followed what God said in His book: the Bible. They invited Jesus to be their Savior and Lord. You, too, can know God. Yes, He really does love you!
Take His Word for it:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. -John 3:16 (NKJV)For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard.-Rom. 3:23 (NLV)For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us... -Rom. 3:25 (NLV)That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. -Rom. 10:9 (NKJV)Understand that God loves you with infinite love! God is good, holy and righteous and we fall short of His perfection. So we need a Mediator, Jesus, who lovingly took our punishment for all our mistakes.
Believe that Jesus is God's Son that took your punishment. He took your punishment for all your sins (anti-God ways) and that He rose from the dead for you, __________.
Repent (turn away from) your sins (anti-God ways) and submit yourself to Him as your Lord.
Receive Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord. Talk to God and give your life to Jesus.
Pray from your heart. If it helps, pray something like this:
God, I understand now...You sent Jesus to share Your love and make it possible for me to be Yours. Please forgive me for all my sins. Jesus, I believe you took my punishment on the cross and that you rose from the dead for me personally. I turn away from doing things "my way" and ask that You rule my life, Jesus. I receive You as my Savior and Lord. I put my trust in You not in the things I do. I love You.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
